Pigging Out in Charleston – Swig & Swine

If it isn’t obvious by now, my family loves food. Since I basically spent all of June staying with my sister in Charleston, we had plenty of opportunities for eating. If you’re a bbq lover like we are, you need to try Swig & Swine.

What’s not to love about a place where the servers are wearing shirts like “I like pig butt and I cannot lie” and “My brisket brings all the girls to the yard”?

My sister and I went around 3 on a Sunday afternoon, and people came swarming in as soon as we sat down. I ordered the pulled pork plate with mac & cheese and beans w/brisket (yum). My sister ordered the two meat plate with pulled pork and homemade sausage (which was a-mazing) and the same sides as me. She sounds like a food beast, but her plan was to eat half and save half for the next day’s lunch (even though we’ll be enjoying the current meal, we also are always thinking ahead to the next).

I love all bbq sauces, but I'm definitely a South Carolina mustard bbq sauce girl. This picture was taken before the piggy went swimming in sauce.

I was absolutely stuffed after this meal, but that’s never slowed us down, so we ordered two desserts to take home for later (most of their desserts are 4-inch pies). It was a difficult choice, but we opted for the bourbon pecan pie and the buttermilk pie because I’d always wanted to try it.

The only sad part about the day was that I had to drive back to Lumberton that evening, and all I really wanted to do was nap in stretchy pants – proof that it was a great meal!

What are some of your favorite bbq joints in the South?
