Snakeskin. Basically, this fall trend is my nightmare come to life. Actually, this IS my nightmare come to life…

I have a lot of feelings about the snakeskin trend that is incredibly popular this fall, and I definitely hesitated before diving in. On one hand, every woman I see wearing a snakeskin skirt, kimono, slip-on sneakers, or loafers looks absolutely adorable. On the other hand, I. HATE. SNAKES.
When I was a kid, I used to have nightmares about snakes pretty often. I’m not really sure where the terror came from except that I can still remember a night that my dad was burning leaves in our backyard and told me to go back to the house because a snake was in the pile. One of my nightmares that happened frequently was that my mom, sister, and I would be standing on our back porch and would see my dad at the other end of our yard. He couldn’t get to us because our yard was completely covered with huge black snakes that were curled up. Uggghhh, it makes me shudder to even think about that dream.
Needless to say, I have a hard time thinking about wrapping myself in the print of those disgusting creatures. I get jittery even from people telling stories about their own snake experiences (and sorry if I just ruined your day because you’re also like me and hate when people tell snake stories).
BUT, sometimes I’m willing to be brave and try new things. I found this cute kimono online and figured I’d give it a go.
Snakeskin Kimono | Faux Leather Leggings | Pink Wedge Sneakers
I ended up loving the kimono and the snakeskin print didn’t bother me at all. I might feel a little differently if it had the snake texture – I don’t think I’ve overcome my fear enough for that, yet.
But I do love how this kimono is versatile – pair it with some faux leather leggings like I did above, or add it to a jersey knit or t-shirt dress to add some interesting detail to an otherwise boring look!

In addition to the kimono above, I’ve compiled a collection of some of the really cute snakeskin pieces that are available in case I overcome my fear and in case you’re not as freaked out by the print as I am 😊 But make sure you hurry and grab these items because this trend sells out super quickly!

So, are you team snakeskin or are you taking a hard pass on this fall trend? If you’re not into the snake print, what is your favorite trend for this fall?

It’s lovely! I only own one snakeskin item (a dress) and I do love it, though rarely have the right occasion to wear it. I think I prefer greyscale snakeskin to brown!

Nice! I agree with you – the grey is much more appealing to me than the brown.
