Amazon Hits and Misses

Happy Monday always seems a little contradictory and fake, doesn’t it? Nobody actually seems very happy about Monday, especially when you’ve had a great weekend. I only went to school for a day and a half last week due to Labor Day and Hurricane Dorian (which luckily only gave us some rain and wind), so today is going to be super rough for me.

So to make Monday a little less meh, I’ve rounded up some of my favorite pieces from Amazon. At least cute outfits can make Monday a little more bearable.

Amazon has quickly become bloggers’ and influencers’ go-to for affordable fashion. There are so many options for outfits, the two day shipping that comes with prime is really appealing, and it’s awesome if you want to participate in trends without committing a huge amount of money for items that may go “out of style” soon.

But you do have to be careful when it comes to sizing and quality. I don’t like being mislead, so I’ve provided honest reviews of my latest Amazon clothing purchases.

Floral Off-Shoulder Dress

Floral Off-Shoulder Dress

This dress was a little out of my comfort zone because it’s off-the-shoulder, figure-hugging, and I don’t usually go for large floral patterns like this. Something about it spoke to me, though. I’ve gained weight in the last few years, so I’m pretty self-conscious when it comes to tight clothes, but I actually really love this dress. I wore it to my sister’s wedding rehearsal and dinner in Charleston, and I think it’ll come in handy for any cocktail parties or events that might pop up in the future.

The material is stretchy and (probably) polyester, so off the hanger it certainly won’t be mistaken for a designer dress in terms of quality, but I do think it looks cute and more expensive than the real price tag when it’s on. I sized up to a large; if you don’t want it to hug your curves, I might even size up two sizes. It also comes in seven other colors.

Green Pencil Skirt with Bow

Green Pencil Skirt | Tee, sold out from J. Crew Factory

Everything was perfect about this green pencil skirt (which also comes in thirteen other colors and patterns) except for the sizing. One of the reviewers who had a height and weight about the same as mine said the medium was kind of loose on her, so I went with the medium. Bad decision. What you can’t tell in this picture is that the skirt is only zipped about halfway (and forget about trying to get it hooked!). The fit was fine in the hips because there is some stretch to the material, but a large would’ve been a better option.

I should’ve known better than to get my regular size because most of the items on Amazon are from Chinese companies and run small. Other than that misstep, I love the skirt, especially the bow that makes it different from and more unique than just a typical pencil skirt.

Leopard Midi Skirt

Leopard Midi Skirt | Tee, old (Target)

I asked my husband if this pattern was leopard or cheetah, and he claimed it was jaguar. After spending basically the rest of the day Googling the difference between jaguars and leopard, I think he was right…whatever pattern it is, I love it.

I’m a sucker for stretch, and all my colleagues laugh because I’m so anti-pants (I hate waistbands! They’re so constricting!), so this pull-on skirt was a no-brainer for me. I sized up to a large, but probably would’ve been fine with a medium; however, the large doesn’t create a muffin top, so I’m good with it. The skirt hits me a little longer than the model on the site (I’m 5’4), so if you’re tall it might not end up being a ‘midi’.

This skirt comes in 30+ colors/prints, which means there are tons of options if you’re not into animal print. If you’re looking for this exact pattern, it’s 2936grap Animal.

Palm Print Halter Dress

This is probably one of my favorite purchases, and it is INCREDIBLY budget-friendly. I wore this dress to another wedding rehearsal dinner at a vineyard, and if we go on a tropical vacation any time soon, it is definitely being packed. I think this dress is perfect for a cruise or an all-inclusive resort. The material is chiffon-like, so it’s flowy and loose.

I, again, sized up to a large because I thought it might be tight in the bust, and was happy with that decision. This dress might be a little short on taller women, so keep that in mind. It comes in 23 other colors (including a really pretty solid burgundy and a black that are a bit dressier). Pink and green is one of my favorite color combos, so that was a big selling point for me.

Pink Polka Dot Dress

Pink Polka Dot Dress

This is another dress that I’m kind of obsessed with. I love how feminine and sweet this dress is (and it’s another incredibly budget-friendly piece). Best part? It has pockets! I’m wearing my regular medium, and maybe could’ve even sized down. It also comes in black and a deep yellow. The material is thin, but I wore neutral items under it and didn’t notice any see-through issues.

I hesitated before ordering it because one review said the material felt like a shower curtain. To be honest, it really does feel like a shower curtain, but it wasn’t uncomfortable or weird, and I thought the pink, polka dots, and ruffles on the hem were too cute to pass up. If wearing a shower curtain is wrong, then I don’t want to be right!

Tie-Dye Jumpsuit

Tie-Dye Jumpsuit | Tanks, old (American Eagle) | Wedge Sandals, old (Target)

Does it feel like you just entered the 1970s? 🙂 I love a good jumpsuit, and this one is SO VERY COMFORTABLE. It comes in neutral colors, but I opted for the tie-dye because I wanted something that was a bit bolder (and I already had a black jumpsuit similar to this). There are also different varieties in styles at the link. Bonus: it also has pockets!!!

I’m wearing my normal size medium in this jumpsuit. I love it so much because of how comfortable it is, and I definitely plan on wearing it during the fall with a long-sleeve t-shirt.

Most of these items are pieces that I’ll continue to wear into the fall, either by themselves or with layers like a denim jacket or a cardigan.

I’m happy to report that I definitely had more hits than misses, and the misses were only issues that came from sizing decisions. And even then, returning items to Amazon is really easy – for most items you don’t even have to re-package them, and if you’re requesting Amazon credit, as soon as your code is scanned at the UPS store, you’re good to go! I love when things are simple!

What are your favorite pieces from this round-up? Are you an Amazon fan? If so, what are some of your favorite items that you’ve purchased? Let me know in the comments!

Love the floral off-the-shoulder number! It looks really flattering, and very classy! I have a similar one in my wardrobe which has become a complete go-to for me. Also adore that leopard/jaguar print! I’m relatively tall and tend to prefer midis; I wouldn’t usually try such a bold print, but it’s really winning me over, especially with that t-shirt!
