Chambray All Day

Chambray. Denim. Jean. No matter what you call it, I love it in all forms! I stopped in at Kohl’s the other weekend, and although I went in with the intention of trying on a bunch of the new spring dresses, I ended up being drawn to everything chambray.

I remember when I was in elementary school I absolutely refused to wear jeans. It was windsuits (do you remember those?) all day, every day. I hated the restriction that came with buttoned pants…and to be honest, I’m still not a huge fan of pants that don’t have stretchy waistbands. So that was my childhood issue with denim. I’m happy that I got over it.

But back to Kohl’s. I know I’ve mentioned several times that I live in a small town. The only clothing stores we have are Belk, Goody’s (I know! I thought they all went out of business too!), Cato, and some other small local places. The next biggest town is the Aberdeen/Southern Pines/Pinehurst area, and even those towns don’t offer up a lot in terms of shopping. There is a Kohl’s, but it’s a small one and they often don’t have a lot of the products I see online.

The last time we went to Southern Pines, I wanted to visit Kohl’s to try on some of the LC Lauren Conrad dresses I had seen online. Unfortunately, they didn’t have very much available.

I was determined to try on a few things and laughed when I was in the dressing room because I ended up with chambray everything! A girl likes what a girl likes!

First up, a chambray jumpsuit!

Even though I thought this was cute on the hanger, I knew it wouldn’t look great on me because of where the elastic waistband sits. I’ve tried on enough dresses with that elastic middle to know that it’s just not a structure that does positive things for my body.

I love the idea of this jumpsuit, though, and definitely love the buttons down the front. If you have the figure to pull it off, I’m jealous!  The material is lightweight, so it’s a great piece for spring…maybe even summer if you’re not in my humid, sweaty part of North Carolina 🙂 I’m wearing this jumpsuit in a medium. I’m 5’4 and expected this jumpsuit to be a bit longer, so if you’re tall it might not work unless you have some really flat shoes.

Next up is my favorite piece from the day – a super adorable chambray cold shoulder dress!

I absolutely loved this dress, and I’m currently sale stalking it. Y’all know I’m a massive sucker for ruffles, so I appreciate that in addition to the cold shoulder, it has the ruffles to make it even more fun!

If you’re not into chambray, this dress also comes in a black and white daisy print, a bird and flower print on gray, black and white gingham (what?! – I need that one, too!), mauve, yellow and white daisy on black, navy blue, and olive. So many options!

I’m 5’4″ without my giant wedges on, and I was really happy with where the hemline landed. If you work somewhere with a relatively casual dress code, this dress is perfect and modest enough for that! For reference, I’m wearing a size small.

And last up is a chambray top with distressed white jeans. I love chambray and white – it’s so clean, simple, and classic. Chambray and white is one of my favorite combinations for spring, and you can pair the chambray top with white shorts when it gets too hot for long pants.

And again with some arm ruffles! Can a person have too many tops with ruffles on them? Asking for a friend…

I think this top would also pair really well tucked into a bright and bold pencil skirt!

I honestly can’t remember if I’m wearing a small or medium in the top. I’m guessing medium because I hate when tops are tight around my shoulders and upper back. There were limited sizes in the jeans, so I do remember that this pair was a size 10, and even though that’s usually a bigger size than I normally wear, these still felt a bit tight. They have a ton of stretch, but the waistband wasn’t as loose as I was expecting.

This ruffle top also has a flower button at the neck to create a keyhole neckline. I left it undone because I was struggling with butterfingers 🙂
